Introduction

EMS Network logoThe National Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Network was initiated in 2004 by Kirklees Council with formation of the Yorkshire EMAS Group. The Network receives continuing support from DEFRA and now involves public sector organisations from all UK regions with over 300 members.

These regional groups are listed on the map below. Please click on a region to go to the home page for that region.

The groups meet every 3 months to showcase projects, promote best practice and to learn from guest organisations such as UKAS. The network also has an annual national conference to which all regions are invited. The 2008 event was themed around environmental management and performance measurement and how we can ‘raise our game'. Details of this event can be found under the events section.

The representatives that attend the meetings all have responsibilities for maintaining or implementing an EMS (ISO 14001 or EMAS) within their Local Authority/organisation. The venues are rotated between members who offer to host meetings and all members of the network are encouraged to host a meeting.

The main aims of the EMS Network are:

  • Sharing best practice on EMAS
  • Discussing problems
  • Inviting useful guest speakers
